If you are still here, have a couple of screwdrivers, a hammer and need a chest of drawers, then read on: The box this item arrives in is surprisingly small and surprisingly heavy too. The contents are well wrapped / protected and a bonus is that all screws / dowels / other bits are in individual bags marked with a letter to designate which ones they are. All other components (hunks of wood) are similarly labelled. Having previously built a fair number of bits of flat-pack furniture, I have developed my own PRS (profanity rating system), to evaluate the complication / frustration of putting flat-pack furniture together based on the number of times I swear during construction. This chest of drawers caused very little swearing until the very end! The instructions are fairly easy to understand and the various parts easily fit together as they should. It took me about 2 hrs to build, with the odd glass of scotch and a short interval chasing the dog, when she decided to steal a bag of dowels. The Chest when built looks excellent and seems robust. Beneath each drawer is a piece of wood that prevents the bottom of the drawer from sagging. Believe me, there is nothing worse than a sagging bottom. The drawer runners slide like silk. So what made me swear?? A number of Phillips screw heads are visible following construction and there should be some black plastic disks that cover the heads. They were not in the box (I checked several times), so I will need to try to get some from the manufacturer :-( Anyway, if you have a bit of time (know which end of a screwdriver is which, can drive a hammer) and like me are too tight to pay for a ready made chest of drawers, this one is probably for you. I followed the instructions and used all the pre drilled holes. All the drawers were misaligned and a complete disaster when completed. I have been putting flat pack furniture together for over 30 years without problem. It would appear that this company is selling defective units. I have seen other reviews saying the same thing but decided to take a chance as I did not think Amazon would sell such second rate items. I have been a long term customer with Amazon and I am normally very happy with my purchases but on this occasion I have just wasted £41. Everything had a letter or number on, to easily identify all the items for checking and assembling, as per an enclosed sheet of paper. There were a few extra 'bits', screws etc. which, because i'd checked before hand, i knew were extra and not missed off ! If i've learned anything about assembling flat packed items it's this. If you're struggling to fit screws or bolts, it's time to stop and double check the instructions. I found, with the chest i received, all pilot holes made it simple to assemble by myself. Just needing the odd second pair of hands. I did fit one of the handles on the wrong side of the drawer face, but no one was looking. I think the materials and look of the unit is very good ( for the price ). Because of a small bedroom i fitted this into a wardrobe, so a couple of minor faults didn't really bother me. - Looks good (with real metal handles, not metallic plastic)
- Good quality fixings (screws, cam bolts etc)
- Instructions easy to follow, with all parts labelled (can be put together in 1.5 hours)
- Very sturdy once put together
- Anti-bowing piece makes it physically impossible for the drawer bottom to fall out
- Well-packaged with no damage to panels
- Excellent value with free delivery
- Drawers not particularly deep
- Lightweight chipboard panels easy to damage (I had a couple of mishaps but fortunately not visible once put together)
- White stickers to cover exposed screws are a bit naff, but not really noticeable in daily use
- Delivery was slower than promised (was due by 8pm on the day after ordering, didn't arrive until 5 days after that)
Quite sturdy, a little damage, but a suitable product for a child. This is NOT FOR ADULTS, as it's clearly made for little people, yet sold as an adult product... go figure?!
A bit of a chore to get it delivered, but that's down to the bone idleness of the courier.
All in all it will do for a short period of time
